There once was a time when celebrities were thought of as nothing but vain creatures forever seeking our approval and adulation. Wait, doesn’t that still exist? Well, you’d be surprised. It seems that lately celebs have been stepping up their do-gooder roles big time. From Jennifer Lawrence assisting an endangered women to The Wanted saving a fan who suffered a seizure, and, of course, Ryan Gosling (pictured above) breaking up a fight, it seems celebs can do far more than sing, dance, act, and look good. They’re real people… just like us! So we thought given this recent rash of celebs-to-the-rescue, we’d recount some of the most impressive acts of greatness exhibited by big-name stars.

Apparently the UK boy band behind the smash hit “I’m Glad You Came” are quick on their feet. This past Sunday, upon arriving at an airport in Glasgow, Scotland, a girl in a waiting crowd got so excited that she panicked, hit her hand on a brick and had a seizure. Luckily the boys were quick to react: group member Nathan Sykes stopped the band’s tour bus, ran out and assisted the fallen girl while his bandmate, Tom Parker,  called an ambulance. “It was pretty frightening, but anyone would have done the same,” Parker said.

Onscreen as Katnis Everdeen in The Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence is quite the heroine. But now it appears this behavior extends to her everyday life as well. On Monday, Lawerence was walking her dog outside her Santa Monica home when she saw a woman lying on her back. The 21-year-old rushed over to help the woman while someone nearby called the paramedics. According to a witness, Lawrenece stayed around even after the EMT arrived to make sure everything was OK. “She was really scared for the girl,” said the witness.

Sarah Harding, a member of UK pop group Girls Aloud, completed her own act of heroism earlier this month when she spotted a man passed out in the road while in Ibiza. The singer, who was on the Spanish island recording new music and has been through a stint in alcohol rehab herself, didn’t flinch: according to The Mirror she stopped her car, rolled the man into “recovery position” and flagged down a passing motorist, who called for help. It appears she was just in time: “the medics said he would have to have his stomach pumped, and thanked Sarah for stepping in,” a source told The Mirror.

Yes, it’s true that T.I. has had his own run-ins with the law. But back in 2010, the Atlanta MC came to the rescue when a man was threatening to jump off the roof of an Atlanta building. According to Atlanta police, T.I., who was in the area, gave police a message to deliver to the man, offering to talk to him if he came down. The man agreed and after coming down from the roof he spoke with the rapper. “He came to the scene and offered to talk to him,” office James Polite said of T.I.. “When the man came down, T.I. was waiting.”

But what would any discussion of celebrity do-gooders be without a mention of Ryan Gosling? Because who can forget about the viral video of the A-list actor breaking up a fight on a New York City street last year? We’re not sure whether we’re more impressed that Gosling put himself in harms way by engaging in what was potentially a violent situation or that he risked scuffing up his striped tank-top. Regardless, it’s yet another prime example of a celebrity stepping up and helping out the common man. This is a trend we can get behind!
