Biografia
Giovanni Seneca was born in Naples in 1967. He graduated in 1988 with full marks cum laude. In 1989 he moved to Paris, where he specialized in classical guitar, musical analysis and orchestration at “Ecole Normale de Musique” and at the conservatory “Ravel”. During his stay in Paris he began composing and he increased his concert activity, always characterised by the desire to deal with the different languages of music. In 1993 he went back to the Marche and dedicated himself mainly to composition, writing and interpreting music for several chamber groups and orchestras, but also for television, cinema, theatre and commercials. Giovanni Seneca performs concerts in ensemble with pieces of his own composition, but also as soloist performer in chamber groups and in concerts for guitar and orchestra. He has performed in the most important Italian cities, but also in Paris, Cannes, New York, Philadelphia, Tel Aviv, Sarajevo, Split, Belgrade,Izmir, Cairo, Alexandria Durres. In April 2009 he toured New Zealand with 12 concerts. He performed as soloist for the following orchestras: RAI Orchestra Sinfonica of Rome, Orchestre des Concerts Lamoreux of Paris, Orchestre Symphonique Français of Paris, Orchestre Philarmonique of Cannes in the French Riviera, Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana of Ancona, Orchestra Filarmonica of Udine. The great Italian composer Ennio Morricone wrote and dedicated to Giovanni Seneca a concert for guitar and orchestra whose world premier was performed in Paris and recorded on CD together with Orchestra Nazionale Accademia di Santa Cecilia of Rome. His compositions include soundtracks for cinema, for example the film “Alma” (2008) selected in the world fim festival Montreal 2009 and the short movie “Di Mosche e fate” (2003),winner of Milan film festival 2004, television signature tunes and several pieces of stage music for live performances by well known actors such as s Valeria Moriconi, Maddalena Crippa, David Riondino and Neri Marcorè. He is the artistic consultant of the international festival Adriatico Mediterraneaneo (www.adriaticomediterraneo.eu). He is also guitar teacher at the conservatorium G.B. Pergolesi in Ancona. -

Giovanni Seneca's project is in pure equilibrium between classical and popular styles. Classicism, folklore and modernity come together and entwine in a fascinating and poetic blend in search of the popular soul of the music. This is expressed through contrasting styles and citations evoking different atmospheres, as well as a bright "leggerezza" made even more appealing by the sound of the classical guitar . The "popular" element is, in a broad sense, the leitmotiv of this music with its aims at communicating to a wide and heterogeneous audience as well as a balanced intergration of classical and popular traditional styles. The concerts are mostly based on original compositions by Giovanni Seneca. In each composition popular rhythms, such as tarantella and tango, melt together with traditional classical and contemporary musical elements. Each piece was born from a musical remembrance and you can find their geographical and ethnic origins but, while some of them change and sum up with other suggestions in a new identity, some others are strongly rooted to their origins and exalt their authenticity. -
