I've been a silent witness to a lot of junk that fills the ether(youtube,myspace,facebook). There are tons of "aspiring/wannabe virtuoso" players out there that play somewhat (fast(?)...but definitely uneven and unclean) licks on a distorted,full of delay guitar. Most of these rely on a heavy abuse of swiping and legato(techniques that can be learned extremely fast!). There are just a few guitarists that can actually play complicated licks(fast if you prefer that) on a clean tone(preferably an acoustic guitar) where the lack of sustain actually forces the player to pick every note(alternate picking). I decided to list a few of the licks that, I believe, can only be played properly by a limited number of guitarists. Try them out and see if you are a "shredder" OR a real virtuoso.
