AntonioCaggiano’s first studies in percussion were at the Conservatorio dell’Aquilawith Antonio Striano, and he went on to specialize with Gary Burton and David Friedman,whereas he studied electronic music at S. Cecilia, Rome, with RiccardoBianchini and Giorgio Nottoli.
Alwaysparticular interested in the new music scene internationally, in 1987, withGianluca Ruggeri, he founded Ars Ludi with which ensemble he has participatedin many of the most important festivals and concert series in Italy and aroundthe world, forming working relationships with many of the best-knowncontemporary composers (Ambrosini, Andriessen, Battistelli, Barriere, Bryars,Bussotti, Ceccarelli, Curran, De Pablo,Duckworth, Lucier, Reich, Part,Saarihao, Volker-Heyn) and working with them in Europe, United States, China,Canada, Mexico, South America, Africa etc). He has performed with many of themajor lyric and symphonic orchestras with such conductors as L.Bernstein,G.Sinopoli, C. Abbado, L. Maazel, D. Gatti, E. Morricone, W. Sawallish, M.W. Chung, Z. Mehta , R. Fruhbeck De Burgos, and from 1998 -2003 was timpanist withthe Orchestra da Camera Italiana under Salvatore Accardo’s baton.

He hasperformed as soloist with various prestigious chamber music ensembles (Solistidella Filarmonica, PMCE of Rome Auditorium ,Algoritmo, Contempoartensemble,Roma Sinfonietta, Dissonanzen etc.).

He teachespercussion at the Conservatorio di Frosinone and continues to evolve his experienceof cross fertilization spanning the boundaries of different forms of artisticexpression.

He is frequently commissioned to write musicfor theatre and for dance and has collaborated with many visual artists includingI. Ducrot, C. Accardi and F. Mauri. B.Diodato.

He wasinvited to be part of the exhibition at the Padula Chartehouse Le opere e i giorni, curated by AchilleBonito Oliva, with whom he also collaborated as performer in the televisionseries on contemporary art A.B.O.RDO DELLE ARTI and on the project Il ribelle imminente at the Festivaletteraturain Mantua.

In 2006 hewas awarded the silver A.B.O. for music in recognition of his compositionalresearch in contemporary music.

He has heldcourses on the interpretation of percussion music at the CantiereInternazionale d’arte di Montepulciano, seminaries at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and taught in many cities around theworld, including Nairobi, Pechino, Berlino, Algeri etc. He has made broadcastsfor many different television and radio stations in various countries and hasrecorded with RCA, EMI, Edipan, Lovely Music (USA), Stradivarius, Brilliantclassics and D.G.G. with the Accademia di S.Cecilia.
